Here are some commonly asked questions regarding counseling.
-
How does counseling work?During your first session, we will discuss what brings you in for counseling. Based on this conversation, we will decide if working together would be a good fit. We will also make a determination regarding frequency and length of counseling. Our counseling sessions will be focused on the specific goals you set. Examples of goals for counseling: ~Decrease anxiety or unwanted thoughts or behaviors ~Increase self-worth and self-acceptance ~Create healthy boundaries in relationships ~Process grief or trauma ~Explore and heal from past hurts

How do I schedule a counseling appointment? If you would like to schedule an appointment, or if you have any questions, you can call us at 469-552-6610 or send an email to cristin@treeoflifecounseling.org. You can also book online.

Do you take insurance? Two of our counselors, Cristin J. Lewis, MA, LPC-S and Alyssa Navarro, MA, LPC take United Healthcare, Cigna and Aetna. If you would like to use insurance, please let Cristin or Alyssa know before your first appointment and they will send you a link to enter your information for verification purposes. While the other counselors do not take insurance as a form of payment, it is possible for your session to be covered by your personal insurance under your "out-of-network" benefits. We can provide you with a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for full or partial reimbursement. Please contact your insurance company to find out if you have "out-of-network" benefits for counseling; some insurance companies do not provide coverage for counseling. You will be responsible for the full session fee at the time of your appointment. Please note that in order to submit the Superbill to your insurance company we will have to give you a mental health diagnosis that will become a part of your permanent medical record.

Why is counseling so expensive?Becoming a licensed professional counselor takes years of education and experience. To be licensed, a counselor must complete a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree, pass a state test, and then complete a 3000-hour internship before they can be fully licensed. This generally takes 8-12 years to accomplish. At Tree of Life, our individual rate is $100 per session. In addition, some of our counselors have received additional training and certifications for specialties, and so those types of therapies are a higher rate. However, our counselors that are still working through their associate hours are able to offer discounted rates of $60-$75 (based on how far they are) and our students are able to offer discounted rates of $30-$50 per session.
